investing for public benefit

Nesta Impact Investments invests for public benefit in the UK. In practice this means that we consider three principles relating to public benefit when we make investment decisions:

An investee’s product or service innovation must have the potential to achieve public benefit in the UK by addressing one or more of our target outcomes, for all those in the UK population for whom the outcome is relevant (we refer to this group of people as the ‘target population’).

accessibility

An investee’s business plan must contain a credible long-term strategy to distribute the product/service to all segments of the target population and must not exclude any segment from the opportunity to benefit from the product/service.

affordability

The business plan must contain a credible long-term pricing and sales strategy that demonstrates how the product/service could be afforded by all segments of the target population and the strategy intends that the pricing and sales channels used do not create barriers to access for any segment of the target population.
